The Brief
Based in the picturesque town of Kingsbridge, Devon; Sam started brewing as a hobby and idea during lockdown – It soon became a successful reality when his sparkling Craft Mead beer won awards and bottles were being ordered on line and delivered nationally.

Moonhoney soon realised the impact that pairing their own made Craft Meads with other Craft breweries in the area alongside a carefully curated lunch and dinner menu could have and the idea of a taproom kitchen restaurant cafe was born. Que some good mates of Sam in the catering and hospitality industry and the idea is now in full swing.

In the heart of the town, just at the head of the Estuary and popular pretty quayside, The Old Warehouse presented the perfect solution to merge the dual functions of the venture and Spaceworks were brought on board to make careful plans to establish that the building and its quirky nature could handle the requirements. Oh yes, I nearly forgot – the Brewery was also on the move, and to be housed within the same building, behind glass – displaying the stainless steel tanks brewing the delicious mead.

The Solution
Underpinning the concept design styling was our desire to not let the Bees be forgotten in the creation of Mead. The design unfolds hexagon shapes across the walls, bar and tables whilst the natural woods in the furniture are broken up with pops of colour from the brand and biophilic elements in hanging air plants bring the outdoors indoors in a calming way.

What has been born is a contemporary stylish and unique Cafe Bar Meadery that celebrates the right mix of everything that everyone would find comfortable in visiting, eating, drinking and enjoying.

Spaceworks managed the full design, technical development and planning permissions on the Grade II listed building. The renovations were completed within a 4 week programme.
