The Brief
Based in Dumfries, Barbours are the oldest independently owned department store in Scotland and date back to the first trading of the family in 1846. The owners are at the forefront of the business and strive to push the family name on-wards, to embrace the changing needs of the retailing environment and to continue to give strong customer experience and value. This refurbishment of the ladies shoe and handbag department reflects that ethos – recognising the tired and dated department and investing in good concept design and space planning services before embracing the fit out and realisation.

The Solution
Clean lines were kept to ensure the fabric of the building was still evident whilst narrow metal work and glass shelves lets the light bring out the product. Added material textures on back panels and cupboard fronts reflect the nature of the product with a splash of colour from the feature lighting to draw and excite. Storage was key to the fixtures as stock rooms for shoe boxes were limited in this department. The fit-out programme took 4 weeks from start to handover and included new lighting, new flooring, full decoration, brand new fixtures with integrated LED lighting to the entire perimeter and all display table sets and sales counter.
